Marriage with a Japanese National

Submit notice to: City office with jurisdiction over the area the foreign national or Japanese fiancé resides in.
Documents to be submitted: Marriage registration, certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage and Japanese translation thereof, copy of the family register of the Japanese fiancé, certificate of nationality (or passport) and Japanese translation thereof, Residence Card

*There is no submission period, however the legal date of marriage will be the day submission is made.

[Marriage According to the Traditions of a Foreign Country]

Documents to be submitted: Marriage registration, foreign system's certificate of legal capacity to contract marriage or equivalent and a Japanese translation thereof and a copy of the family register of the Japanese fiancé.

Marriage between Two Foreign Nationals

Divorcing a Japanese Spouse

Submit notice to: City office with jurisdiction over the area the foreign national or Japanese fiancé resides in.
Documents to be submitted: Divorce notice and a copy of the family register of the Japanese spouse, certificate of nationality (or passport) and Japanese translation thereof, Residence Card.

*There is no submission period, however the legal date of divorce will be the day submission is made.
